Data Standards for Patient Safety

More Information Print   Email

The purpose of this IOM project was to produce a detailed plan to facilitate the development of data standards applicable to the collection, coding and classification of patient safety information. The plan will apply to both adverse event data and errors data.

In July, the committee issued a letter report on the Electronic Health Record Functional Model Letter.  On November 20, 2003 the final Data Standards for Patient Safety report was released.  You can access the National Academies Current Projects System page for more information.

Please note that any comments that you may have submited to the committee through this website or otherwise, including your name and identifying information, will not be kept confidential and will be included in a Public Access File. The National Academies shall be authorized to use any such comments or submissions in accordance with the National Academies' Terms of Use Statement.

Support for this project has been provided by the Department of Health and Human Services' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
