Workshop: Economic Models of Colorectal Cancer Screening

Event Date: January 26, 2004 - January 27, 2004

Print   Email

The Institute of Medicine will be conducting a workshop on January 26-27, 2004, to assess issues in modeling the cost-effectiveness of screening for colorectal cancer.  Several recently published analyses of the cost-effectiveness of colorectal cancer screening have resulted in different conclusions about the relative merits of alternative screening strategies.

Through invited presentations and participant discussion, the workshop will explore the factors that underlie differences among the published models in their assessments of cost-effectiveness of CRC screening.   Authors of leading published CRC screening models will be invited to describe and compare their results with one another.  Other experts will present summaries of the body of evidence, including most recent findings, to support the development of model assumptions and parameters.

An individually authored summary of the workshop will be prepared for the use of researchers and interested members of the public.  It will include descriptions of the invited presentations.  It will also characterize the range of views expressed by workshop participants as to the validity of evidence supporting choices about model structure and assumptions.
