Economic Models of Colorectal Cancer Screening: A Workshop

Print   Email

The Institute of Medicine conducted a workshop on January 26-27, 2004, to assess issues in modeling the cost-effectiveness of screening for colorectal cancer screening.  Several recently published analyses of the cost-effectiveness of colorectal cancer screening have resulted in different conclusions on the relative merits of alternative screening strategies.

Through invited presentations and participant discussion, the workshop explored the factors that underlie differences among the published models in their assessments of cost-effectiveness of CRC screening.   Authors of leading published CRC screening models were invited to describe and compare their results with one another.  Other experts presented summaries of the body of evidence, including most recent findings, to support the development of model assumptions and parameters.

An summary of the workshop was released in February 2005. For more information, please contact Judith Lovell Wagner, Scholar in Residence, Institute of Medicine, 202-334-2646
