Title: Cohort R84: Crossroads/Atmospheric Nuclear Test Participation
Summary: This cohort consists of 73,704 Navy veterans (38,668 participants; 35,036 comparisons). Participants are those involved in Operation CROSSROADS (1 July through 31 August 1946): a test of the destructive power of the atomic bomb by air and underwater blasts targeting over 90 naval vessels. Participants were at least ten miles away from the blast point at time of detonations; many boarded target ships afterwards for inspection, equipment retrieval, and clean-up. In addition to the fields listed below in the cohort description, additional demographic and clinical data are extant.
