Title: Cohort R55: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Summary: Copies of death certificates coded to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as the underlying cause of death for all WWII veterans who died during the years 1963-1967 were obtained. All had National Service Life Insurance (NSLI). An equal number of controls with NSLI were randomly selected and matched on calendar year of birth, date of entry into active duty, and branch of service.
