The committee, as part of their evaluation, planned site visits to DoD facilities in receipt of DoD-GEIS avian influenza/pandemic influenza (AI/PI) surveillance funding, including the five OCONUS DoD research laboratories (Bangkok, Jakarta, Cairo, Nairobi, and Lima), and the two CONUS laboratories (San Antonio, Texas and San Diego, California). More information on these site visits is provided below.
OCONUS LABORATORIES
U.S. Naval Medical Research Center (NMRCD)
Lima, Peru
This visit took place the week of March 5th, 2007.

U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit No. 2 (NAMRU-2)
Jakarta, Indonesia
This visit took place the week of March 5th, 2007.
Site Visit Team: Myron M. Levine, M.D., D.T.P.H., Kennedy F. Shortridge, Ph.D., D.Sc.
*While visiting NAMRU-2, the team also went to Cambodia to see the work being done there with regard to the AI/PI supplemental funding.

This visit took place the week of March 5th, 2007.
