  • Discuss the roles of various government agencies and private sector standards setting organizations

Coordinating and Improving Standards and Certification for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Questions to Address:

  • How does the work of your agency or organization relate to other efforts (public and private sector) regarding personal protective equipment? What is needed to reduce overlap and clarify roles?
  • What do you see as important areas of inconsistencies or overlap in PPE standard setting?
  • Should all PPE (for workers and the general public) be required to be certified? By whom?
  • What is the optimal way to ensure a rigorous approval process for effective PPE? What are the   areas of conflict of interest of product manufacturer, industry, and worker needs?
  • What is needed to ensure that workers and the general public can identify effective and certified/approved equipment?
