The environment, in its broadest sense, is one of the major determinants of human health and well-being. Scientists, health care workers, and policy-makers are beginning to understand the complex interactions between the environment and the genome, and the subsequent impact on the health of individuals and communities. Addressing these environmental health concerns require cooperation among many agencies, organizations, and governments. What is often perceived as a local concern, may also have regional, national, or international consequences.
In response to the need to discuss environmental health from a multi-disciplinarian approach, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) created the Roundtable on Environmental Health Sciences, Research, and Medicine as a forum to discuss areas of mutual concern in a neutral environment. This evening session provides an opportunity for individuals to discuss the challenges facing environmental health leaders, the impact of environmental health on global societies, and the need for international cooperation. Following the presentations and discussions, a reception will be held.
This event is conjunction with the Global Health Council’s conference on environmental health. Additional information about the conference can be found at www.globalhealth.org. Information about this event can be found at the conference web site or by calling 202/ 334-3029. The event is free, however, we request that you pre-register.
