The IOM Roundtable on Evidence-Based Medicine is comprised of leadership from across healthcare sectors–patients, health professionals, healthcare delivery organizations, companies, health product developers, government agencies, insurers, information technology, and clinical investigators. Our work focuses on:
•Accelerating progress toward the long-term vision of a learning healthcare system that both applies and develops evidence as a seamless, real-time component of the care experience;
•Advancing the near-term capacity to generate the evidence demonstrating medical care most effective and produces the greatest value for the people targeted; and
•Improving public understanding about the nature of evidence, its dynamic character and its importance.
In contrast to IOM consensus studies performed by expert committees appointed for the specific period required for the study’s completion and release, IOM Roundtables and their related activities are not limited in lifespan or scope. Roundtables focus on improving common understanding and catalyzing action rather than issuing recommendations.
