Effect of the HIPAA Privacy Rule on Health Research: Proceedings of a Workshop Presented to the National Cancer Policy Forum reports a series of presentations from officials of the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, the National Institutes of Health, and other federal agencies, the pharmaceutical industry health law, and academia.

Presentations described the regulations implemented in 2003 governing protection of the privacy of individually identifiable health information in health plans, providers, and clearinghouses that engage in electronic transactions.
