Activity Description

The Committee on Military Nutrition Research (CMNR), Subcommittee on Military Weight Management Programs organized a 2-day workshop to bring together a representation of weight control program leaders and innovators from the military services, and key military, academic and industry research personnel. The purpose of the workshop was to obtain knowledge of programs designed for weight control within the services, gain relevant knowledge from industry and academia, and to develop a consensus toward a more standard DoD-wide approach to weight management practices. The Subcommittee identified the most effective interventions for weight loss and maintenance, particularly as it applies to non-obese overweight individuals as found in the military setting and, through review of workshop presentations and relevant scientific literature, developed a consensus report with conclusions and recommendations on the optimal content for a military weight control/management program that could be utilized across the services.
