On Wednesday, March 16, 2005, the Committee on Ethical Considerations for Revisions to DHHS Regulations for Protection of Prisoners Involved in Research held its first meeting at The National Academies facility on Constitution Avenue.
Representatives from the sponsoring agency, the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), reviewed the study charge and highlighted issues that are of special concern to them. OHRP officials also answered questions posed by committee members.
This was the first of five meetings that the committee held to collect information and conduct their deliberations. In addition to this open session, the committee will later hold two public workshops to further inform the study process.
