The Committee on Health Research and the Privacy of Health Information: the HIPAA Privacy Rule met for the first time in Washington DC at the Keck Center of the National Academies on June 14-15, 2007. Issued discussed included:

  • What is the value added by the Privacy Rule?
  • What privacy matters are important to consumers?
  • What is essential for privacy protection?
  • What is essential for good research to take place?
  • Components of the Privacy Rule and their relationship to research, protection of privacy

The committee also reviewed the Common Rule during the meeting.
