The Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Qualification of Biomarkers and Surrogate Endpoints in Chronic Disease held a one-day workshop on biomarker qualification. This workshop featured presentations concerning current issues in biomarker qualification, as well as existing frameworks for qualification. In addition, the workshop explored decision analysis tools, specific case studies, and contexts of use for biomarker qualification. The proceedings of this workshop served as input to the committee as it began to formulate its recommendations on a biomarker qualification framework. The committee’s consensus report is scheduled for release in spring 2010.
