The Forum on the Science of Health Care Quality Improvement and Implementation convened a workshop on October 15, 2008 to discuss training for the research of quality improvement. In order to improve quality improvement research, researchers must have the required knowledge, skills, and experiences. Current training is inadequate and often unrelated to the theories and principles relevant to training in QI and QI research. Key challenges in training, what has been shown to help improve training, and the outstanding challenges to training were discussed.
