1) Clinical Assessment and Personalized Health Advice: Adults

Goal: Examine existing algorithms based on clinical expertise and latest knowledge of H1N1.

2) Clinical Assessment and Personalized Health Advice: Pediatrics

Session Chair: Renee R. Jenkins, M.D., Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, College of Medicine, Howard University Hospital

Goal: Examine existing algorithms based on clinical expertise, the latest knowledge of H1N1, and issues unique to the pediatric population. 

3) Risk Communication & Health Literacy

Session Chair: Ruth Parker, M.D., Professor, Department of Medicine, Emory University

Goal: Determine key factors to assure clarity and comprehension; determine how best to communicate the risks of actions during a pandemic.

4) Public Health Informatics and Modeling

Session Chair: Seth Foldy, M.D., State Health Officer and Administrator, Wisconsin Division of Public Health

Goal: Assess the feasibility of using bidirectional communication to generate “real time” epidemic data; discuss possible uses for data; identify and address possible legal considerations.

5) Emerging Technologies

Session Chair: Bradley A. Perkins, M.D., M.B.A., Executive VP for Strategy and Innovations, Vanguard Health Systems

Goal: Identify technological options for promoting individualized bi-directional communication in a pandemic, including likely target groups for each technology. Discuss various strategies for offering personalized risk assessment and health advice to the public.

6) Legal Considerations

Session Chair: Priscilla Keith, J.D., General Counsel, Health and Hospital Corporation

Goal: Assess the organizational and institutional risks and liabilities (public and private) associated with self-assessment algorithms. Liability may be assessed at the local, state and national levels.

The co-chairs from each break-out session will have 10 minutes to present issues and options identified within the break-out session. The chairs will then take questions and comments from the plenary group for 20 minutes.
