Activity Description
Obesity rates have risen rapidly in both the United States and the United Kingdom. This increase has raised concern by both governments and each has developed and implemented a range of programmatic and policy efforts to prevent obesity. The IOM will establish a planning committee to plan and organize a one-day workshop highlighting obesity prevention strategies, programs and policies from each country. The workshop will provide insight to the similarities and differences between how the US and UK address obesity prevention and a forum for comparative understanding of obesity-related policies. In turn, this workshop can provide shared discussion on the possible solutions from each country to confront the obesity epidemic. The workshop will be jointly hosted by the Institute of Medicine, the UK Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
