Committee of Medical Experts to Assist Social Security on Disability Issues

Activity Description

The IOM has established a standing committee of medical experts to assist SSA on medical and clinical issues, primarily relating to the Listing of Medical Impairments. This standing committee is expected to assist SSA in identifying opportunities to update and improve the Listings to facilitate the formation of ad hoc committees that could provide expert medical advice to improve the Listings for specific body systems. The standing committee will also guide the selection and refinement of a series of focused topics to be examined through studies or workshops conducted by separately appointed IOM ad hoc committees.
