Individuals and communities today face many health problems that can be associated with our environment, including: waste, unhealthy buildings, urban congestion, suburban sprawl, poor housing, poor nutrition, toxic chemicals, air pollution, water pollution, and environment related stress. Solving these complex issues will require involvement and leadership of individuals from many different sectors of society. As a first step, this meeting stimulated dialog about these issues among local business leaders, architects, urban planners, engineers, public health scientists, environmental scientists, health care providers, social scientists, clergy, educators, and the general public. Mutual concerns and potential solutions for the greater southeastern region were discussed.
