The first workshop was conducted on June 1, 2008, in Sacramento, CA at a statewide meeting of foundations, community leaders, grass-roots organizations and public health/obesity prevention program leaders, the California Convergence Conferece. The workshop discussed needs for evidence by community public health leaders when implementing and assessing effectiveness of childhood obesity prevention initiatives. This workshop was divided into two parts. The first session was conducted with program evaluators and was titled: Evaluator Perspectives on the Use of Evidence, and the second session was conducted with site leaders and was titled: Site Leader Perspectives on Information Barriers. This workshop facilitated the understanding of the “on the ground” struggles organizations face in using and developing evidence for childhood obesity prevention programming and policy.
